Halloween time...

With only two more weeks till Halloween, we decided to get down and dirty for FHE this week, so that we could do all of the fun things we've been planning before it's too late. So we busted out the giant spider decoration and Rob and Hayden were in charge of hanging it up - didn't they do a great job?!

Ana and I got out the haunted gingerbread house kit that I had been saving since last Halloween (that's a good way to keep the kids from eating the candy - save it for a year and then it's all hard and not good to eat!) It took alot lot longer than i anticipated because you have to let the frosting harden between each step. Ana was so patient - poor girl, all she wanted to do is put some candy on the darn thing...

Finally, she got to decorate the house...

Hayden stopped in for some of the action - namely the end...

The final product was great!

Pumpkin Festival...

Last Saturday we went on a family date to the Pumpkin Festival in a near by city. Even though it was pretty cold - it was so much fun! So here's how it went down:
We played in the Corn Box...

Made Pumpkin Heads... (Ana wasn't too fond of it messing up her hair)

And Monster Hands...

Ran an obstacle course...

Rocked out on air guitar...

Mastered the maze...

Got up close and personal with Skeletor...

And for the culminating event we watched crazy people, who spent hours and hours and I'm sure tons of money building pumpkin lauchers, in the annual Jack-O-Launch competition. These machines were outrageous and they launched the pumpkins hundreds and hundreds of yards - it was hilarious to watch as the crowd roared each time one went soaring. I wish I could have gotten a picture of one flying, but they were way too fast.

"Whoa, did you see that, Mom?"

And Sophie was such a champ through it all - even when she was being attacked by pumpkinhead monsters...

All in all - a great family date!

Apples and Jam...

OK, so I absolutely love it that Ana loves to help me cook. It doesn't matter what it is, she's there to help. I also absolutely love the produce that you can get in the fall. So we've spent quite a bit of time making apple pie filling and canning it, making and freezing strawberry jam, and freezing peaches - and Ana and Sophie were in it with me for the long haul, they are such troopers!

Singin' in the Rain...

Over the last week we've had several wet, rainy days. The kids got tired of staying inside so they ventured out to get some fresh air and some wet feet...

Pumpkin Painting...

As some of you know, we love Halloween around our house. So let the festivities begin... with pumpkin painting. This was a great project because we got to hang them as deocorations on our front porch when we were done.

The kids painted their first ones orange...

And then got a little crazy as they went on...

I love you, Rob!

We Love Dad!!

Thanks to an idea from my sister, Ana, we had a "We Love Dad" Party at our house tonight. Rob's been a little stressed with work lately and so we decided to show him how much we love him...

The kids made signs and taped them to the doors and when Rob came home from work they yelled, "We Love You Dad!" and threw balloons up in the air, which in turn scared Sophie to death and she screamed her head off for a couple minutes. Sorry Soph...

We had wrestling...

And group hugs...

And we finished off the night with burgers on the grill and the BYU vs. Utah State football game. It doesn't get much better than that (except BYU could have played a little better - they still won though)...

Sophie loves her daddy, too. And Rob loves to hold her while she sleeps...

Say Ahhhh...

Well, we had a successful trip to the dentist yesterday - no one panicked, no one cried, no one even gagged. We did have a few setbacks though - all of which were CAVITIES!!! Here's how the visit went:

First they butter the kids up with toys...

Then they're off to the x-rays - Ana was amazed that they could take a picture through her skin...

Hayden was the brave one to take "the chair" first. Who wouldn't want to ride up and down in a cool chair like that?

Hayden, didn't you brush this morning? Just kidding - they painted his teeth purple to check to see how well he brushes...

Up next, Ana puts on a brave face...

Oh wait, I don't know if I can do this...

Hayden comes to the rescue, reassurring her that the purple stuff really does come off your teeth, and "when you're done you get a cool whale toothbrush"...

Way to be brave, Ana!! She was a champion mouth holder opener...

Wahoo, I did it!! And NO cavities...

YESSS!! Whale toothbrushes!

We love our dentist!!

I waited until after we left to break the news to Hayden. This was his reaction when I told him he had a couple cavities and had to go back to get them filled...

But all is well when you get to go to McDonald's and play in the Playplace...

Overall, it was a pretty good day.
