I Haven't Died...

I knew that some of you were probably wondering... no, I haven't died... I've just fallen off the grid for awhile... and entered an entirely new one.

I entered the world of being a middle school teacher a couple of weeks ago.  I've done a lot of hard things in my life... but this has moved up the ranks to #1.  I feel like I'm running a marathon that will not end until June.  There really are no words to describe my level of exhaustion and stress.

That being said... middle schoolers are... well, a lot of things.  Firstly, hilarious.  In the moment, the things they do are not so funny, but at the end of the day when I am telling my husband about my day, I just end up laughing so hard at all the really crazy things that were said and done.  Secondly, they are so totally insecure.  My heart just goes out to them for being in the phase of life they are in... it's REALLY hard.  Kids at that age are so harsh and judgmental.  I just hope that I can make it slightly easier for some of them. Thirdly, they are so fun.  I hope that I can get organized enough to capitalize on their desire to have fun while they learn... it takes a lot of effort to pull together a super fun lesson that they actually learn what needs to be learned.  Wish me luck...

So now you know... I haven't died... I've just been sucked into the realm of awkward, insecure, craziness that is Middle School.

Hopefully I'll eventually be able to post some pictures from my teaching adventures...

Cheers!

Girls' Rite of Passage...

When Ana turned 8, we told her that she could get her ears pierced if she wanted to...
it was a crazy few months following her birthday and we weren't able to fit it in until after school got out.  Sophie was not about to miss out on watching this momentous event, so we made it a girl's day out.  While we were on our way, this is how the conversation went...

Ana: Mom, I think that maybe Sophie should get her ears pierced, too.
Me: Why?
Ana: I mean, it would be fun if she got hers done, too.
Sophie: Yes!!!
Me: Are you sure?
Ana: Yep.
Me: Well... Soph, do you want to get your ears pierced?
Sophie: Yes!!!
Me: Well, I guess that would be alright.
Ana: OK Sophie, you go first.

And that is how it happened that Ana "selflessly" sacrificed her sister.  That being said, Sophie was more than ecstatic to be sacrificed...
She's ready... (Ana's watching very carefully...)
 Still smiling... 1... 2... 3...
 Didn't even flinch!
  Sophie the Brave...
After making sure that Sophie survived, Ana decided that it was safe...
 Here we go...
1... 2... Starting to have second thoughts... 3...
 She did it!
 Two cute girls...
In the end, I was really glad that they both did it on the same day.  It made for a really fun memory for all of us.  And a great story to boot...

Summer Time on the Second Creek Trail...

Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy summers with my kids?  No school... no schedule... just hanging out together and spending time outside in the sunshine...

Pinterest Project...

The kids and I like to try out fun things that we see on Pinterest...
Here's one of our latest...
As always, the neighbors like to join in the fun...

Hayden (Finally) Catches a Fish...

All the times that we have ever been fishing, Hayden has never been the one to actually catch a fish.  He wanted to SO bad!  So, Rob planned a special fishing day to help him realize his dream.
Two hours went by... not a bite...

They tried all sorts of different lures, and then finally he reeled one in... Wahoo!!
 And then another...

  And another...

Hayden said that it was "the best day of his life"... it was one of ours, too, Hayden (even with that goofy hat that you were wearing)... thanks for being the best son that any parents could ask for...

Welcome to Summer...

I stole this idea from my friend, Chelsea.
She does this for her kids every year on the last day of school...
I wish that I would have taken a picture of them running through it (It didn't rip and they all fell on top of it - pretty hilarious).  Oh well...

Award for Ana...

Ana was so proud of her award for academics at school...
She works so hard and always does her very best.  Way to go Ana!

Mud Pies with Nona...
